Ask PlayHer Sports

Q: What is the most effective way of keeping the lacrosse ball in your possession on a fast break?
A: Keep your stick as close to your body as you can. Keeping your stick too far from your body is an open invitation for a successful check. Be alert of opponents around you, as well as open teammates in case you need to pass.
Q: What is the best stance for playing defense?
A: Always stay low and keep your stick to the ground. That way you can you react quicker to any offensive move.
Q: What is involved in having a successful team?
A: Communication is key. Let your teammates know which girl you're defending, who's open, and if you need help covering the ball. Know when to pass the ball and identify the strengths and weaknesses of your teammates.
Q: How can I make my passing as accurate as possible?
A: Identify your target. Take a step towards your target and follow through with your pass all the way so that your stick is pointing to your target at the very end.
Q: What can I do to help make my drives more powerful?
A: A powerful drive involves strength in both the upper and lower body. Always keep your knees bent and your head up. Transfer your weight from the leg farthest from the stick to the other as you're striking the ball.
